In 2003, while still a senior in high school, Carmen Rasmusen auditioned for season two of American Idol. She was originally cut but was later brought back by Simon Cowell as a “wildcard” pick along with Clay Aiken. Her voice and movie-star good looks helped Carmen make it into the top 6 and although she didn’t win, a career was born.
Carmen continues to be an avid follower of the hit TV show. She is currently writing a weekly column for Salt Lake City's Deseret Morning News about the show. She has also recently published a book entitled STAYING IN TUNE that shares her American Idol experiences. The book is a behind-the scenes look at how she was able to keep her life in harmony with her Mormon beliefs of modesty and chastity despite the pressures of the entertainment industry.
Bring Carmen on to talk about:
• Her thoughts on this season’s crop of contestants.
• What it was like being the only underage kid her season.
• Her experience going on the American Idol tour with
the other finalists.
• Her take on the future of American Idol, has it run
its course?
• What it was like appearing on the reality show Fear Factor.
• Her acting career, which included a role in a remake of Pride and Prejudice.
