Author Herbert Randolph Coursen was an Air Force fighter pilot in the 1950s and considers himself a loyal and deeply patriotic man. Yet he is adamantly against the war in Iraq.
A member of Veterans for Peace, Coursen was one of the earliest people to protest the Vietnam War and believes the Iraq War is wrong “because it is an unnecessary action against a non-existent threat.”
He is joined in his sentiments by many veterans of this and past wars. Before history writes the script on the Bush/Cheney administration, Coursen offers his opinions on why the Iraq War was ill-conceived and reckless.
He explains why:
• The veterans who have served in Iraq are coming home with horrendous physical and mental injuries for whom little is done.
• The war in Iraq was a misdirected attack on terrorism.
• War funding is affecting domestic programs like antiquated airline control systems, inadequate public transportation and even
veteran’s programs.
• The war is more about neo-conservative objectives. It was never about terrorism.
• The U.S. government is on an international “power grab” that has destroyed our reputation around the world.
